How is Jeremy Guthrie STILL an Ace of a Staff?

I don't get it. Colorado's rotation is so shitty that this is the only guy they can get to start on opening day?

I know he's played for some terrible Oriole teams, but he's never won more than 11 games. He hasn't had 6 SO/9 since 2007 and this is the guy they'll count on to carry them early in the season?

I dont think the opening day starter means as much as it used to or some are making it out to make. Now-a-days its not always the teams clear cut best pitcher who goes opening day.

John Lannan was the Nationals opening day starter a couple years ago. Actually, he was the OD starter two days in a row.

Sometimes teams just have crappy pitching ...
The king was shaken. He went up to the room over the gateway and wept.
As he went, he said: "O my son Absalom! My son, my son Absalom!
If only I had died instead of you
O Absalom, my son, my son!"

Juan Nicasio will be their best pitcher this season, mark it down. As for the term "ace" I don't think it can be applied to a staff as shitty as Colorado's.

There are only 20-25 true aces at one time, and they aren't always distributed evenly among the teams. Some teams have three, some teams have none.
