The bullpen point is key. Just look at the Orioles, who are 9-7 because their bullpen (minus the atrociousness of Kevin Gregg) has been spot on so far this season. And some of you will say that it is only April, and that is correct. There is plenty of time for the Red Sox to right the ship, just like there is plenty of time for the Orioles to go back to sucking.
I still think it is a transitional period in Boston, but because it is a huge market, that sort of transition isn't going to happen. The problem now (besides injury) that they didn't add much to the bullpen aside from Bailey, and they lost their two best relievers from last season- Papelbon is in Philly and Bard is in the rotation. Having that stable bullpen is huge.
