I have a problem with stuff like this. Why are the Cardinals honoring an opposing player with no connection to the team?

Chipper Jones is a nice player, but he's not an all time great, league wide iconic player like Kareem Abdul Jabbar, who was given a send off in every NBA city in 1988.

This isn't as bad as the Mets honoring Jones, but I still think it's unnecessary. Those Cardinals fans come off like goofs giving a standing ovation to a guy who doesn't give a single fuck about them, their city, or their team.

I guess that is where you differ from 99% of current baseball fans, who do consider him an all time great.

He's not a league wide icon by any means, but he's arguably the best 3B of his generation.

Harper back-to-back games with a dinger. Meanwhile, Motte blows another save.

          Closed thread debate!

You cut off the rest of my statement. He's not an icon or household name. I used Kareem as a measuring stick because he got the sendoff treatment in every city when he retired, but im talking about guys on the level of Jordan, Mantle, Ruth, Musial, Gretzky, Magic, Bird, etc.

Chipper Jones is not on that level. He's an Atlanta icon, not a sports icon, not a St Louis icon. It was weird that the Cardinals did that.

I cant recall the last baseball player (or any athlete, for that matter) who got that treatment. When is the last time Atlanta did this for an opposing player? Its awkward to me unless you are talking about a player who transcends the sport, and Chipper does not.

You can't close threads on VSD, because everybody is a mod.
