Wish they had pitch fx for Kerry Wood when he was younger.

Most Chicago Cubs fans would likely want an apology from Steve Bartman, the Walkman-wearing fan who infamously interfered with an attempt by outfielder Moises Alou to catch a foul ball, thus giving the Florida Marlins new life in Game 6 of the 2003 National League Championship Series. The Marlins, of course, went on to win both the series and the title, leaving the Cubs with another year of heartbreak.

But one Cubs player who was in the dugout that night admitted on Friday that he would instead give an apology to Bartman.

Kerry Wood, the recently-retired pitcher, said that he would say "sorry" to Bartman if given the chance, in response to a question from Dan Patrick on The Dan Patrick Show. "Sorry," Wood said would be his response, if he met Bartman today.

"I respect the fact that he has never went out and talked about it or tried to make money off it."

Wood also touched on his retirement, explaining that even if the Cubs were contenders he doesn't think he would have continued pitching.

"I really felt I was handcuffing Dale [Sveum] not being able to use me in back-to-back days. The body wasn’t responding... I spent enough time on the DL. I didn't want to end that way."
