I was reading an article about the Reds draft history, and came across something very interesting.
Ken Griffey was drafted by the Reds in the 29th round of the 1969 draft. He wasn't expected to be drafted, and had already committed to Marshall to play football. Had the Reds not drafted Griffey, the odds are pretty good that he would have been on that ill fated Marshall plane crash in 1970, killing everybody on board.
And as a result, of course, Ken Griffey Jr never would have been born.
