Johan Santana No-Hits Cardinals - First Ever in NY Mets History

130+ pitches, a career high. A favorable call on a Beltran liner, an amazing catch from Mike Baxter robbing Yadier Molina and resulting in a shoulder injury...Santana finally pulls it off.

Seaver took 3 no hit bids into the 9th and couldn't do it...John Maine did it a few years back and couldn't cap it off, either.

    JOHAN!!!

I'm glad their first was accomplished by a deserving pitcher. I could only imagine if it ended up being thrown by a guy like Bud Smith

      What about Jose Jimenez?

As I said in the Random Thoughts thread, it frustrates me a tad that Johan did his best Edwin Jackson impression, but whatever. Congrats to you Mets fans...just don't say this is 2006 payback.

I was at work, but about to fire up MLB.tv for the final inning.

That's Gary Cohen on the call, a die hard Mets fan whose been calling games on radio and TV forever.

Also going nuts when he strikes out Freese are Keith Hernandez and Ron Darling.

And here's a link to a Soundcloud clip of the radio call from Howie Rose...another longtime Mets fan and broadcaster.

Johan Santana throws a no-hitter for the New York Mets. Howie Rose has the call. Via MetsPolice.com

Just watched it on MLB.tv. Goddamn.

That guy in the Carter jersey and Jorts celebrating before getting tackled was great.

It's about time he tossed a no-no. REALLY happy for Johan.

                            Stolen from another forum:

Could it be the KID #8 presence played a role on the Mets 1st no hitter? Or just a plain coincidence....6-1-2011 Mike Vaccaro of NY Post calls for Mets to retire KID #8....6-1-2012 Gary Carter COO of Freemantle Media retires...Mets scoreboard reads Mets 880....Santana strikesout 8 Cardinals.....Kid wearing #8 Carter jersey gets arrested after crashing mound to celebrate with the players after the no hitter....Games Mets pitchers started to get their 1st no hitter 8020 games started....Gary Carter Mets final year 1989 stats reads 8 doubles 0 triples 2 homeruns 0 stolen base..8020...and finally..age of Gary Carter when he passed away..57..Johan Santana pitches the Mets 1st no hitter in Mets history........his uniform number..57.....Sail on Gary...could it be the magic is back?

Was that supposed to be "eerie" or are you somehow tying all of this to Jane Eyre?
