          I approve of this bump.

Though this might be a fake injury as a ploy to keep Medlen in the rotation. Braves have been carrying 6 starters for the past few weeks, so maybe Sheets is just fatigued and needs to skip a turn or two.

Sheets is going to start tomorrow's game for Tim Hudson, then hang 'em up. He said he is done after that.

Thanks for the huge innings, Ben, glad we were able to accommodate your comeback effort.

How did it fail? He threw 48 innings with a 3.50 ERA. That's incredible value for an essentially no-risk acquisition.

Ben Sheets is my dude. Great comeback to finish the career. Now he can ride off into the sunset. Lame by Atlanta that he won't be starting in the playoffs.

                        Why did he miss September?

He was regressing fast, got hurt(again), and the Braves went 4-4 in his starts.....thats not good.

To his credit, I know of one of those losses where he pitched especially well (something like 8 strikeouts).

It's nice he was able to return at all considering the injuries, let alone be productive for a handful of starts (even if gobs' homer posts earlier predicted him being back to his 'ol self, but hey, if it was Pedro trying a comeback...I'd want to think he could be awesome again too).

It'll be cool for him to get 1 last start in the majors, too...for people with realistic expectations (ie...anything he can provide is a bonus), he did well.

So getting 50 useful innings out of a guy off the street is a "failed" experiment? It worked out, until it stopped working out. They were playing with house money anyway.

But he struck a guy out on 9 pitches

Ben Sheets will retire after he pitches tomorrow, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports (on Twitter). Sheets, who joined the Braves …

Anyways, looks like Sheets is done now.
