Joey Votto & Johnny Cueto for Joe Blanton

This guy, and almost every single commenter, wanted to do it in 2008:

Of course, Beane would of flipped them for garbo anyway.

Some of the comments on that blog are awesome.

I say Volsquez, Votto, Stubbs could get it done.
Bailey's close to the top prospect in MLB.
And why was everyone so high on Matt Belisle? What did he ever do that generated some hope he could be a good starter.

I still say they should do it.

It really shows that three or four years is an eternity in baseball these days.

That may be the closest deal to come close to Schilling/Harnisch/Finley for Glenn Davis territory. Cinci would be barely treading water the past couple seasons without Votto.

The Reds without Votto are one of the worst teams in baseball.

I remember the "Homer Bailey is the next big thing" articles in SI.

He had almost as much hype going through the Reds system as Strasburg did.

Reminds me of those "Brandon Beachy for hot prospect Alex Rios" rumors that were swirling pretty heavily this last winter.

Me, W2B and Nahste have had this discussion in the chatbox, but it really was unfair to Bailey how much hype he got. I would agree with your statement. He was hyped up so much throughout the organization that the fans still hate him to this day. He is having a great season, but if he gives up a few runs in an inning people are calling for his head. It's insane.

Homer Bailey and Mike Pelfrey were supposed to be the best pitchers in baseball right now.

Which year? I think they wrote that article four years running.
