The R.A. Dickey for NL Cy Young Tracking Thread

Holy shit does this guy have all Mets fans frenzied for the first time in forever due to a starting pitcher. Three complete games over his last four starts...the first pitcher since the 1980s to have consecutive complete game 1-hitters. 25-2 strikeout to walk ratio in those games.

Now tied for first in the league in ERA (2.00 with Beachy), lowest WHIP, most strikeouts in the league with 2 less IP than Verlander, and obviously leads the league in wins, but no, he shouldn't belong on the all-star team...

Every set has one card that is seemingly in every pack. Leach was the card for that Donruss set. I have about 19 of those.

Dickey is baffling hitters right now. It's amazing to see this feat.

He literally throws 3 types of knuckle balls...a rising one, one at 77-81 and one at 62-68.

The rising knuckle is the one that has been killer for him lately. No one can get a good swing on that thing. Then for shits and giggles he will throw a 2-seamer at 82-85 to just mind fuck you like he did hardy last night. Just a stud he is now.

I'm surprised that there haven't been more knuckleball pitchers in the last 30 years. When the Niekro brothers and Charlie Hough got old and retired in the late 80's, no one really took their place. Tim Wakefield is the only guy I can think of. The knuckleball is still an effective pitch.

Tom Candiotti's the only other guy that comes to mind.

I just keep expecting him to hit a wall and come back down to earth...but he's been a stud.

Mike Mussina threw a knuckle-curve during his Orioles career and for the duration of his first contract with the Yankees, but I understand your point. If Dickey has sustained success, you will see some copy-cats coming out and trying to copy it.

I'm just glad that he is finally buttfucking other teams outside of the Phillies. Him against the Phils was like him against a lineup of me in the Show (good call Villain). It's weird to feel good for a Met, but he seems like a good dude and his story is pretty amazing.
