Yankees tell Reggie Jackson to stay away after Rodriguez comments

    From the LA Times article...

Mr. October is Mr. Unwelcome at Yankee Stadium, at least for a while. Hall of Famer Reggie Jackson, a special advisor for the New York Yankees, the team with which he reached his height of popularity as a player, has been asked by the team to stay away because of the comments he made about Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez last week.

"The Yankees think that the timing is not right for me to be around the team right now," Jackson told USA Today. "When the Yankees feel that the timing is proper, I'll return."

The Yankees are upset with Jackson over his comments in last week's issue of Sports Illustrated.

Jackson said that players who used performance-enhancing drugs, including Rodriguez, should be treated differently by the Hall of Fame.

"Al's a very good friend. But I think there are real questions about his numbers," Jackson said in the interview. "As much as I like him, what he admitted about his usage does cloud some of his records,"

Jackson apologized to Rodriguez after the comments were released, but Rodriguez doesn't want to talk about it.

"We're going to keep that very private," Rodriguez said.

Maybe the Angels will let Reggie visit while he's banned from Yankee Stadium. After all, he's never said a bad word about Gene Autry.

Sounds like the Yankees and Rodriguez can't handle the truth. These Draconian tactics by the Yankees against a player who helped them win multiple titles is ridiculous. Jackson only spoke honestly and really didn't say anything too damning against Rodriguez, and the Yankees organization themselves have frequently trashed their own former players (see George Steinbrenner vs. Dave Winfield, Goose Gossage, Sparky Lyle, etc.).

I could draw a parallel to VSN, but I won't.

You can't have one of your legends talking like that about one of your current stars. Even if it's true.

What did he say that was so shocking? Reggie was being real and honest something A-Rod cant do.

Yes, but you dont throw your third basemen under the bus like that. Serves no one but Reggie and creates noise the team doesnt need.

After all these years, Reggie is still the straw that stirs the drink.

Jackson has always been a blowhard, but he didn't say anything that isnt obvious here. Plus, its kind of ok for the previous generation of players to take shots at the current generation. Its been that way forever. Ty Cobb used to say that Willie Mays was the only "modern" player who could crack a roster in his day.

The Yankees have always been hyper sensitive, and they actually ended up making a bigger story out of this by banning Jackson.
