That 4.18 team ERA probably could use some work.

The Red Sox need to blow it up and start over.

Not necessarily bad talent-wise (except possibly the bullpen) but with everything that has happened in that clubhouse, you've got to start over. Youk is a start, but Beckett and Buccholz could probably go, Ortiz as well. Carl Crawford is probably not an option, but if they could move that contract it would be helpful. I would essentially get rid of most of the long-term leaders because you need to let some of the younger guys take over.

So maybe blowing it up is taking it a bit far, but that is what I would do.

I agree with a lot of this, but you can't have your manager continually talking trash about guys and taking the bait every time a reporter sticks a mic in his face (unless he's Ozzie Guillen, of course). He's supposed to be more mature and media savvy than the players, especially since he's been a part of the media for quite some time.

I thought getting rid of Bobby V was a given. I saw why they hired him, but it was either going to be a huge success or colossal failure, and we already have the answer.

Take a look at Ortiz's stats.. While I agree Beckett could go, who else would you get rid of? Nobody is going to take Crawford. Hell it has been 1 year and he has had all kinds of injuries wtf are you going to do with him? Pedroria? Come on.

.500 team at the break with all the injuries is a HUGE failure? Bobby V has nothing to do with this. In fact he has done well with what he has been given. Just look at the way he has handled the chumps in the bullpen.

Sox are one of the top hitting teams in the game. Their rotation has underperformed. What would you do to blow it up.?

I think the problem with the Red Sox is in the ownership group using the media outlets they own as a mouthpiece to blast former players and managers and paint themselves in a more positive light.

Bobby V has performed miracle work this year to keep this team even in the race. Of course in hindsight the trade doesn't look as good with Youkilis playing well with the White Sox but at the time they had no choice but to make the move.

The rotation is the problem and I don't see what that has to do with Bobby V, or how blowing it up would be the solution.

I don't even have a problem with the Youk trade even now that he is playing better for Chicago. As he gets older he is hurt more. He has always had these weird injuries even through his career with the Red Sox. He plays the game hard and is a great player but he got hurt and Middlebrooks came up and pretty much took the job. He is younger, and cheaper. It is part of pro sports. At the time Youk was playing like shit and his trade value was low. I am glad he got to move on and is in a place where he is performing well and is an everyday player.

Hits at Fenway Park since trade: Will Middlebrooks, 5; Kevin Youkilis, 3
