    Hanley Ramirez Traded to Dodgers

"@jonmorosi: BLOCKBUSTER: Hanley Ramirez & Randy Choate to #Dodgers, Nathan Eovaldi & Scott McGough to #Marlins, sources tell @Ken_Rosenthal and me."
Been confirmed a few other times on twitter, as well as a comment from Jeffrey Loria

"@Ken_Rosenthal: Loria on Hanley: "It's no secret I love the kid. He needs to have a fresh beginning, a new beginning. This is a very painful moment for me. But we had to do something." #Marlins #Dodgers"

First they ditched the teal and now this? Marlins were my favorite team (outside Mariners) to watch for years, didn't want to see Hanley get traded.

        Hanley is a cancer.

But, the Marlins got shit for him. Nate Eovaldi? Trash.

          Terrible return for Miami.

And Choate is a sneaky pick-up for the Dodgers.

Think about what they could have gotten for Hanley in 2010 compared to today.

The .720-ish OPS he's put up over the last two years will not cut it at a corner IF spot for most teams, and his defense hasn't been good either.

He wasn't a good defensive SS before he was fat, so he will be worse now, even though the OPS will play better there.

Peter Gammons was saying that a scout told him that Hanley is essentially a really expensive utility player at this point. I wonder if he can play LF.

So the Dodgers are all of a sudden rich, and they decide to sign Andre Ethier long term, and bring on Hanley Ramirez, instead of an actual good player? I'm just glad the Marlins took Eovaldi, so I don't have to worry about Melvin trading for him.

Dodgers picked up Hanley's contract, hence the not so great return in talent for Miami...

                    Makes sense.

For a second I thought manchild had purchased the Mariners.

Seems like very little return. How this guys value diminished THAT greatly?

His average WAR for the first 4 seasons of his career as a starter = 5.6
His average WAR for the last 3 seasons = 1

Damn, I was hoping the Orioles would go for Ramirez. Dude definitely needs a fresh start, and I would've taken the risk on it. My guess was the Orioles didn't plan on taking as much on the deal as the Dodgers, and somehow I don't think LA is done making moves.

                            Awesome trade! I'm so stoked.

Colletti really had a chance to fuck up this one and I think he made the right call. Awesome!

Congratulations, your team totally fleeced the Marlins on this one. Even though Ramirez has had a terrible year, you need to get more than Eovaldi for the guy, even if the other team is taking on both his and Choate's salary in full. If I'm a Miami fan down there, I'm fucking pissed (assuming they used public money to help pay for the stadium).
