Guess management doesn't feel that Vizcaino will be the same coming back from injury.

Will be interesting to see if the Cubs value Viz as a starter or not, was touching 97 pre-injury and he has a devastating curve.

Like the trade from the Braves perspective, Maholm is super cheap for a serviceable lefty, and Reed Johnson can play all three OF spots and has a .850 lifetime OPS vs. LHP. Basically replaces Diaz, who is out for the year.

Nice trade for the Cubs. Frome verything Chicago outlets are saying Theo views Vizcaino as a starter.

Always liked Reed Johnson. Great spot-duty player. Sad to see him go.

Sneaky good pickups for the Braves. Johnson's as good as they get as far as 4th outfielders are concerned. He's actually become quite serviceable against RHP as well, not just as a LHP platooner in the last couple of years. Turner's a good fit for Maholm as well.

One thing about Vizcaino is that he is accumulating service time right now because he is on the MLB 60-day DL. He probably won't be fully "back" until his final pre-arbitration year. Additionally, he has never thrown more than 97 innings in a pro season and he has torn his UCL twice in two years.

There's a lot of risk there, but obviously a worthwhile gamble for Theo.

Had Maholm on my fantasy team for a couple weeks, been a stud in his last 5. He's streaky but very good trade imo.

Yeah, it was well worth the gamble. Theo traded nothing he needed moving forward.

I wonder if the MLB GM's will veto this trade?
