    Reds acquire Broxton from Royals

Reeds made an interesting move sending Donnie Joseph [supposed closer of the future] and some other AA bum I've never heard of for Broxton.

The AA bum (JC Sulbaran) is the better prospect, #5 Reds prospect preseason, but probably the 5th best SP in the system at this point behind Stephenson, Cingrani, Lotzkar & Corcino.

Donnie Joseph has great numbers this year, but as a rule I never care about trading minor league relievers (see: Boxberger, Brad).

I don't like Broxton. Walks the ballpark, declining K rate, fake ERA this season. My fear was that the Reds gave up one of the "big four" SP's, which i'm ok with trading, but not for a guy like Broxton. When I saw that it was Sulbaran & Joesph, I was relieved. Meh trade, hopefully he pitches well and doesn't see a ton of really high leverage situations because I don't trust him, but we gave up next to nothing.

Sulbaran, a midseason Southern League All-Star, is 7-7 with a 4.04 ERA in 19 starts for the Pensacola Blue Wahoos. He ranks third on the circuit with 111 strikeouts and has served up a league-leading 17 homers over 104 2/3 innings.
I think both guys will eventually pitch in the majors, which is all the Royals can really ask for a rental player. Joseph might stick as a power reliever, maybe a closer, but I think Sulbaran is a depth starter/AAAA guy at best.

Reds have still not addressed the 6th SP question. Can't expect all 5 guys to not miss a start all year, plus there is a double header coming up with the Cubs anyway which will require a call up (unless Simon gets the ball, which is doubtful).

I guess Todd Redmond is the guy. Or Brett Tomko. Scary.

Broxton will lose a big game for the Reds this season. Bump this when it happens.

He's very hittable. Best you can hope for is 3 good outings for each disaster. Never trusted this guy in a big spot, even when he was 'good'.
