Hanley Ramirez in the last 9 games: .343/.385/.400

    On our expensive Cuban import:

#Dodgers Yasiel Puig is in the stands here at Rancho Cucamonga. I guess his 1.500 OPS in 9 AZL games was enough.
    @JonHeymanCBS
Scout says little-seen cuban OF yasiel puig, who signed for $42M w/ #dodgers, is a "huge talent"
Rumor has it that he was already promoted to Single A Rancho (which means I need to head to a Quakes game pronto - that team is loaded with Doyers talent). Speculation suggests that success in Rancho could lead to further promotion in September to AA or AAA since both of those teams will play in MiLB playoffs and the Quakes will not.

If Puig tears it up in the minors, that could make the Dodgers less aggressive in their 3rd OF search this winter. That assumes that Colletti/Kasten think so much of him that they believe he could be on the MLB roster next summer.

Yes, I know that is far-reaching speculation.

Derek Lowe to the Yankees to pitch in the bullpen, and the Orioles acquire some bullpen help in JC Romero from Cleveland for a token minor leaguer. Interesting that he left to sign with the Indians a few weeks ago from the Orioles minor league system

Dan Kolko ‏@masnKolkoThe #Nats are the first team all season to score more than four runs off Ryan Vogelsong. Smacking around the NL ERA leader.
The king was shaken. He went up to the room over the gateway and wept.
As he went, he said: "O my son Absalom! My son, my son Absalom!
If only I had died instead of you
O Absalom, my son, my son!"

That should be enough run support. I'm heading to bed

With that, Vogelsong is no long the ERA leader. He's tied for third behind your own Ryan Zimmerman and Cueto. Nats made me very happy last night. Please get that sweep.

Also, while some writers have been going on about the Dodgers' hole in LF, Victorino has begun to heat up as the leadoff man. After a slow start with the team, he's now on a 7-game hitting streak with a .367/.441/.567 slash line. I don't think Dee Gordon, Bobby Abreu, Juan Rivera, and/or Tony Gwynn Jr. could do that.

The Dodgers are getting marginal victories out of their deadline trades, which is exactly what they were looking for in a close division race. Every win is needed.

The Nats are downright scary. Outside of Posey and Cabrera, I don't know if the Giants have anyone else that would crack their lineup.

                They're just loaded.

The funny thing is, if you look at their lineup, Zimmerman and Morse are the only two guys you'd really worry about.

Looks like Morse and Werth could miss a couple games with minor injuries. This will hopefully mean Shark gets to start during Shark Week

If there was a category for most effective pinch-hitters, Matt Carpenter might be leading it. He has 10 RBI in those situations, with five of his seven hits being doubles.

How do you guys like FP Santangelo?

He didn't do play by play/color commentary out here but he was good when he was on. How has he been received out there?

LOL that is also partly because the Giants lineup sucks. I saw them on Friday when Posey was out. It was ugly.

Billingsley since returning from DL: 5 games, 1.56 ERA, 26K, 6BB

What is the key to this magic?
