Brandon McCarthy suffers fractured skull, brain contusion and epidural hemorrhaging

Terrible, terrible, terrible news for the Internet's favorite pitcher. If you didn't see the footage of him being struck in the head by a line drive yesterday, DO NOT WATCH IT.

Anyway, it's been a rough year for McCarthy, here's hoping to a full recovery.

Oh man .... that is brutal
The king was shaken. He went up to the room over the gateway and wept.
As he went, he said: "O my son Absalom! My son, my son Absalom!
If only I had died instead of you
O Absalom, my son, my son!"

I watched it yesterday and at the time they were saying that he was doing okay. I'm not surprised at the extent of his injuries and putting baseball aside, I hope it doesn't have any negative impact on his future health.

Latest report is that he is alert after a two year surgery to relieve pressure in the brain. I've seen Mike Mussina get hit too many times as an Oriole fan, so I'll pass taking a look at this one.

After he gets better the question has to be, will he ever recover from this and be able to pitch in the majors again?

I really hope he can. Brings back thoughts of Adam Greenberg.

Just watched it, didn't look that bad to me either, probably because I was expecting blood and a knockout. He just sits there rubbing his head looking bewildered. Weird.

Why would you be expecting to see that? Getting hit in the temple with a baseball traveling 90 mph from 60 feet away doesn't cause you to spew blood all over the field, but it can just as easily can kill you.

It was a horrible hit, but it's not gruesome like those fighters getting their legs snapped or shit like that. Brutal? Losing a meal over it?

I hope he recovers. I remember Kuroda said there was fear in returning to the mound.

I just don't get why you were expecting to see something like blood spurting out of his neck... It's baseball, there are no sharp objects.*

I was actually at the game yesterday and was sitting with my buddy when it happened. A really scary and jaw dropping moment. I was like to my buddy "WTF did we just see/Did that really Happen"

Heres to a speedy Recovery and hope he can get back to 100%.
