The Miami Marlins are having a disappointing season, but manager Ozzie Guillen expects to return next year despite speculation that his job could be on the line.
Guillen said the thought does not "go through my mind, 'Wow, I might get fired?' No. Sometimes you say, 'Wow, I wish I got fired because I can go home and relax and not deal with this anymore.' But no. That's not Ozzie Guillen. I like to fight."
Guillen signed a four-year, $10 million contract on Sept. 28, 2011. The Marlins -- 65-82 with 15 games to go -- have underperformed despite investing heavily in free agency last winter.
"Whoever works for the Marlins and denies that he should be fired is full of (expletive)," Guillen said. "My coaches, myself, the front office, my players, we're all involved in this thing. We all failed. And we've got to be better. Hopefully we learn by the mistakes we made and we move on.
"When you are in last place you need a better manager, better GM, a better owner. You need a better everything when you are a last-place team, because we all failed."
Asked if he thinks his job is on the line, he said: "I don't care. I don't. ... That's up to them. That's up to (owner Jeffrey) Loria."
Guillen said he understands the speculation.
"How many times last year did they say, 'Ozzie is in the hot seat'? They name managers and my name is there. I don't get mad about that. You're right. I should get fired. But I don't get mad at that," he said.
