The king was shaken. He went up to the room over the gateway and wept.
As he went, he said: "O my son Absalom! My son, my son Absalom!
If only I had died instead of you
O Absalom, my son, my son!"Comment

Why would the Marlins even consider taking on a 5-year $114 million commitment to a guy clearly past his prime?
It just sounds insane.
I don't doubt Rodriguez has some hometown value, but not five years and $114 million.
He's just not that guy anymore. Anyone who takes on that contract is beyond stupid. Oh, wait, the Dodgers. My Twitch video link: http://www.twitch.tv/dave374000

Miami just doesn't seem to have a plan. So Rodriguez makes about as much sense as anything else about their franchise right now.Comment

If a player has a bad April do you bench him the entire month of May?
I get the postseason has more immediacy but making rash lineup decisions based on a handful of games is very stupid. Baseball is all about guys regressing to the mean at some point or another. A-Rod, Cano and those guys are good hitters, there hits will come eventually. They won't come on the bench though.
The move was especially stupid when the "hot bat" you're leaving up there is notoriously awful against the handedness of the pitcher.Comment

LA would have a pretty bad left side of the infield. Rodriguez is only going to get worse defensively, they have Gonzalez so they can't hide him at first, and Ramirez is a black hole at short. I wouldn't do that, even if the cost was no problem.

Oh God. Tell that to all the players who have gone broke because they use this exact same logic. If anything, having this much money is MORE of a reason to get someone, who is legitimate, to handle it.
I'm not saying A-Rod is going to go broke, because that would be the worst collapse he's even partaken in, but just players in general.Comment
