Is Justin Upton that much of a headache?

Find all the latest MLB news, live coverage, videos, highlights, stats, predictions, and results right here on NBC Sports.

The Diamondbacks essentially acquired reliever Heath Bell and infielder Cliff Pennington for outfielder Chris Young on Saturday. And FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal thinks they’re not done dealing:

I’ll believe Justin Upton will be a Diamondback in 2013 when I see him in an Arizona uniform on Opening Day.

Rosenthal envisions Jason Kubel, Adam Eaton and Gerardo Parra making up the D’Backs starting outfield in 2013 and Upton being used to fetch a starting pitcher or a long-term answer at shortstop. “Saturday was but a means to an end,” Rosenthal writes.

Upton posted a disappointing .280/.355/.430 batting line with 17 home runs and 67 RBI in 150 games this summer for Arizona. The 25-year-old right fielder is owed $38.5 million over the next three seasons.
I realize he's coming off a bad season, but the guy is only 25. Is he really that much of a headache? Both of the Upton brothers have reputations for lazy play. But I find it really hard to believe that the Diamondbacks would give up on Upton so soon. He's only 25 and their pitching should rebound next season. They should be in contention for the playoffs.
The king was shaken. He went up to the room over the gateway and wept.
As he went, he said: "O my son Absalom! My son, my son Absalom!
If only I had died instead of you
O Absalom, my son, my son!"

Upton was terrible this year, and some believe that his shoulder injury is chronic and will not go away. So the Diamondbacks might be trying to get rid of him while he still has value, as further bad performance/injury will make him impossible to trade for anything of worth. It will be interesting to see what they get for Upton if he is traded. Obviously there's a lot of talent there, but can he perform at a high enough level to make him worth the contract? There is a lot of risk involved with trading for him. BTW, did you know Upton is only 25?

Yea, he's only 25. Twenty five years old man.

Didn't know anything about the shoulder injury.

I feel like Justin Upton has been in the league for 15 years. How old is he again?

Can 25 year olds get AIDs? How old was Magic? Probably older than Upton, who's 25

No but I know someone that was born and lives in the state where one of the greatest football franchises ever resides, and roots for a team from Colorado.

As someone under the age of 25, neither Justin Upton, nor I care, because most of that teams success came before we were born.
