AAA relief pitcher... Not the most exciting trade.

27 year old AAA relief pitcher.

This is a salary dump for the Angels, who are expected to deal Haren, too. And then re-sign Greinke.

Angels are also sending cash to the Royals to pick up part of the salary, so this is a low risk move for the Royals, who had horrid starting pitching last season. Santana, even off the bad year, immediately becomes their ace.

Good Riddance... He should have pitched in the Home Run Derby last year.

Think its a good move for the Royals. With the Angels picking up some of the salary Santana isn't a bad addition to a shitbag staff.

It's a decent move, but only if they keep adding more guys in front of Erv. If they are stopping here, uh, that's shit. He is only marginally better than Jonathan Sanchez at this point. If they are serious about upgrading their staff, this has to be the first of many moves.

Sidenote- I'm guessing KC was more interested in talking about Haren, but the asking price was too high.

Exactly what I figured. It'll be hilarious if they fail to sign him and have to get Lohse.

Here's the thing, even the shitty version of Ervin Santana is an upgrade for this team, but he has far more potential upside than guys like Sanchez & Chen & Mendoza, so it's a very worthwhile move to take a chance on him.

Not that I think you disagree with that. Not even sure why i'm posting this, actually.

Royals need to add another pitcher to slot right behind Santana, but it's a low risk pickup for them, and it's a move that a smaller market club has to make. Given their need for pitching, and it's high cost on the open market, a trade was their best option.
