The Rays and free agent Kelly Johnson have agreed to a one-year contract, according to Jon Paul Morosi and Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. Financial terms of the agreement are unknown.
Johnson, 30, hit just .225/.313/.365 with 16 homers and 14 stolen bases for the Blue Jays last season. He's two years removed from a .284/.370/.496 showing with the Diamondbacks, and he's managed at least 16 homers and 13 steals in each of the last three seasons.
The Rays love versatility, and Johnson has some experience in left field in addition to his usual position of second base. The signing likely pushes Ben Zobrist into the outfield full-time. Tampa Bay acquired former Blue Jay Yunel Escobar from the Marlins earlier this offseason, so he and Johnson will again team up as double play partners in 2013.

Pitcher Freddy Garcia and outfielder Bobby Abreu would “love to play” for the Marlins, according to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.
Agents of “older veteran” players have contacted the Marlins, telling them their clients would be willing to play in Miami. Abreu and Garcia are among the players who would want to continue their careers with the club. The 38-year-old Abreu hit .242/.350/.342 in 257 plate appearances with the Angels and Dodgers last season. Garcia, 36, started 17 games for the Yankees last season, with a 5.20 ERA and a 4.68 FIP.
Both players clearly are in the twilight of their careers, but it makes sense for them to reach out to the Marlins. Abreu and Garcia would likely be in the mix for a decent amount of playing time with the team. In turn, the Marlins could benefit from adding major-league talent in the form of once-popular veterans at the end of their careers. While Abreu and Garcia wouldn't be expected to produce much, they likely aren't looking for a lot of money, and probably just want to extend their playing careers.
