From the NYP's Mike Puma on Twitter, about Mets pitching prospect Jeurys Familia:

    J. Familia had to talk his way past security upon arriving. He kept saying "Familia" and the guard wanted to know "whose family" he meant.

So Familia said "Familia, Mets" and the guard was like, 'OK, you're with the Mets family, but who are you here to see?"

The king was shaken. He went up to the room over the gateway and wept.
As he went, he said: "O my son Absalom! My son, my son Absalom!
If only I had died instead of you
O Absalom, my son, my son!"

I got Reds statistician Joel Luckhaupt, a hardcore, far left wing (VSN SABR scale, trademark W2B & NAHSTE) SABR nut, on twitter to kinda sorta admit that while pitcher wins are a flawed stat, they are still sorta reliable over larger samples and victims of misuse more than total uselessness.

This guy is someplace in between Gooby (Obama) & glen (Stalin), so that's a hard fought win.

Here's where I always scratch my head at the "WELL WINS DO MEAN SOMETHING IN THE LARGE SCALE", well, yeah, of course they do. Of course a 300-game winner is probably going to be a really good pitcher. Nobody has ever, ever, ever, ever disputed that. It's the 15-win seasons here and there. The Chein-Ming Wang 19-game winning seasons. On the offensive side nobody has ever said someone with 1500 RBIs in a career are all really good players, it's the random 100 RBI Joe Randa seasons that are the reason for looking to other way.

Chase Headley will miss one month of the season with a broken bone in his thumb. Those things tend to nag. Tough break.

lol Adam Jones....bigger question...why the fuck does that pitcher eat so many donuts during his starts? Imagine along his career, he would've stopped for one start without getting shelled.
