I remember after the Gonzalez/Crawford trade, people said something along the lines of, "If I had X million dollars to spend I probably wouldn't have used it on those players." Well if I had 90 million, there's no way in hell I would ever use it on Gomes, Napoli, and Victorino. Throw in the Red Sox rumored interest in Kyle Lohse and this could become the worst spending spree ever.
With every transaction I remind VSN that Ben Cherington is a terrible GM. Are you ready to agree with me yet Boston fans?
I'd rather have Ethier than BJ Upton or Shane Victorino.
Ethier has never even had a 4 WAR season, can't play CF (can barely field a corner, LOL) and provides no baserunning value. Would take a 28 year old Upton over him every day of the week.
This Victorino deal is indeed laughable for Boston though.
I'm also glad you can finally agree with the thread topic.
I always agreed with the topic, just thought the thread starter was ironic, given the Dodgers penchant for handing out even worse contracts than this one.
@Ken_Rosenthal
Sources: #Indians’ offer to Victorino was 4 yrs, $44 million. Evidence of their flexibility. Victorino got $2M per yr more from #RedSox.
No idea what the Sox are doing here. I was cool with them actually rebuilding with youth. Instead they sign Napoli and this bum? I mean they are three year deals so it doesn't handcuff them too bad but what the fuck.
