Good trade for Cleveland and Cincinnati....not sure why Arizona values Didi so high though.

Not under the new CBA, unless they offer a qualifying offer, which they won't because the plan is to call up Hamilton by then, and they can't afford Choo anyway.

If they make a qualifying offer and he declines it, then yes. If they don't offer him anything, then no.

RT @Ken_Rosenthal: Source: #Indians to send #Reds approximately $3.5M to account for differences in projected salaries between Choo, Stubbs.

Choo doesn't cost Reds an extra dime.

Good one year experiment by Jocketty here, I have to admit, this was crafty. The guy never does a thing at Winter Meetings, I curse him, and then he makes these sneaky moves in December/January.

Uh...wut? Why is Arizona trading Trevor Bauer?

#Dbacks Towers on Gregorious "He's athletic. He reminded me of a young Derek Jeter."

#Dbacks Towers says Gregorious is one of "premier shortstops in baseball." "We think we're a better ballclub today and in the future..."

Kevin Towers LOVES Didi Gregorius. I don't get it. He's a great (not good) defensive player, but he has never hit, and has zero power.

Kevin Towers has traded Chris Young, Trevor Bauer, Matt Albers, Bryan Shaw for 2 SS's that can't hit, Tony Sipp, and Lars Anderson.

In their quest to accumulate light-hitting shortstops at any cost, the Diamondbacks have traded Justin Upton to 1997 for Pokey Reese.

This is one of the dumbest trades I've seen in awhile(48 hours).

No clue why the Dbacks did this. If the Reds wouldn't budge on Didi without a 3rd team then just snag another of the dozens of glove only shortstops buried on some other teams farm system.

Kevin Towers saw everyone reacting negatively to Dayton Moore and said, "Oh yeah, you guys think that is bad?"

I love that the Dbacks are going out of their way to make themselves a worse basbeball team. I was hoping they'd give up Upton for Asdrubal Cabrera, but I guess that's not going to happen now.

And yeah, I know that when Bauer was at UCLA he always kinda did his own thing. I think his dad is the only person who can coach him. He doesn't listen to anyone. Or something like that. He also has weird philosophies on pitching, like he thinks it's better to pitch higher in the strike zone than than it is to keep everything down.

Like everyone else, why the hell is Arizona so damn set on trading Bauer? Wasn't he the second best pitching prospect behind Dylan Bundy by some to start the season? One season is way too soon to give up on him.

Indians actually got a good deal, getting a younger Stubbs who they hope can turn around some, as well as Bauer. Reds did get a great deal as well. Diamondbacks now have to trade Upton for next to nothing and the worst off-season shall be complete.

Arizona was frustrated by how stubborn Bauer's pitching philosophy is. He refuses to adapt, and insists on throwing up in the zone and being a primarily fly ball pitcher. That said, this makes no fucking sense. Even with their intent to trade Bauer being one of the league's worst kept secrets, you would think they could have yielded a better return for him in a standalone deal. Jumping in as a third team to facilitate this trade is pretty questionable lMO, and they could have gotten a better return for Bauer with more patience.

The thing is, the Towers mancrush on Gregorius is not only baffling, but also legitimate. He's not just talking the guy up with GM speak after the fact. From what the Cincy beat guys are saying, Gregorius has been the center of every conversation between Cincy & Arizona this offseason.

Gregorius has always been considered a decent prospect, but either D'Backs scouts see something nobody else does, or Towers himself is just enamored with him for whatever reason, but the whole situation is weird.

Cleveland picked up a bunch of useful pieces, including two with big upside, for a guy they had no prayer of signing. Good on them.

The dumbest shit about it is how obvious as hell it all was while he was at UCLA. Spend one fucking hour at a bullpen session when he's there with his dad and you know exactly what he's going to be like. Why the hell do you draft a player like that if you want to change him? I remember in the draft the whole report on him was that you have to be willing to accept how unorthodox he is and have the attitude to embrace that or you're wasting your time.

Well, at least they got Didi Gregorius out of it :choke:

What a shit show in Arizona. I still don't know what was so wrong with Stephen Drew that they had to dump one of their top prospects to replace him.

If that's why you trade a player with the potential that Bauer has, you're doing it really wrong.
