Drew is a boras client so the DBacks didn't want to deal with that, he's still a FA and will most likely get a 1 year deal from the A's who typically don't deal with Boras clients either. There was also that incident where the owner called him out on his injury so they wanted to cut ties with him ASAP. I just don't see how they don't try and find a cheaper young defensive SS or someone who can just be a stop gap until they make a move for someone else, instead of getting involved in a 3 team deal where they get completely raped. If Cabrera comes back to the DBacks in this trade then I'd understand.Comment

That was it!? All it took to land Bauer was Didi Gregorius!? That seems like quite a terrible trade by the Dbacks.
And I got groaned for Offering Danny Espinosa straight up for Bauer? I was overpaying.
Anyway, good move for the Indians and Reds. It's only a decent move for the D-backs if Didi can learn to hit. I get that they wanted Profar or Andrus, but this seems like a terrible trade to me.The king was shaken. He went up to the room over the gateway and wept.

Espinosa played shortstop all through the minors. 259 games at shortstop, 7 at second base. He also played shortstop for 300+ innings last year when Desmond was out. Posted a 4 DRS. While it's a limited sample size, he can definitely play shortstop. Is he Simmons or Brendan Ryan? No. But he'd be good.
I stand by my original post. Diamondbacks gave up on Bauer way too soon. He was worth far more than Didi Gregorius. Still doesn't solve their shortstop issues in 2013. Unless they don't care if their shortstop has an OPS under .700The king was shaken. He went up to the room over the gateway and wept.

Actually, I never proposed it. I originally offered Espinosa for Bauer, straight up. Then you brought up the idea that the Rangers would have to be involved. But I never proposed Andrus. Honestly, if the Rangers were willing to deal Andrus or Profar, they'd probably already have Upton.

I would laugh my fucking head off if the Diamondbacks were stupid enough to trade Justin Upton for Danny Espinosa.
I really don't understand the trade from the Diamondbacks perspective. They traded one guy who was mostly still a prospect for another who is completely still a prospect, and one that is a great fielder but still can't hit. Would you trade Julio Tehran for Jose Iglesias? The king was shaken. He went up to the room over the gateway and wept.

I thought you brought up the idea that the Rangers would have to be a trading partner, simply because of the hard-on they have for Justin Upton. The Dbacks want a SS, the Rangers don't want to give up Andrus or Profar. So, enter the Nationals. They send Espinosa to the Dbacks, Dbacks send Upton to the Rangers, Rangers send pieces to both teams. In my dream scenario, the Nats get something from the Rangers and Bauer from Arizona.

How many people outside of Reds fans were even aware of Gregorius before this trade? He was never higher that the Reds #6 prospect at any point, and thats after the Latos trade that wiped out three guys who were always ahead of him, and Cozart, Mesoraco, & Frazier getting called up for good. He wasnt top ten in the org 12 months ago.
What an oddball player for Towers to be so enamoured with.Comment

That equals an everyday shortstop, which is not worthless, but it's worth a heck of a lot less than Trevor Bauer.Comment
