    Cody Ross Signs w/ Arizona

Red Sox let Ross go, sign Victorino for 3/39...then Ross gets 3/26.

The Arizona Diamondbacks agreed to terms Saturday with free-agent outfielder Cody Ross on a three-year contract, according to sources. ESPN's Jim Bowden reports the deal is worth $26 million and includes a club option with a $1 million buyout.

Ross, 31, is coming off a season in which he batted .267 with 22 homers and 81 RBIs in 130 games for the Boston Red Sox.

A 10-year veteran, Ross will join a crowded outfield that already includes Justin Upton, Jason Kubel and Adam Eaton. The Diamondbacks are now working to trade Kubel, according to sources. Upton also has been the subject of trade rumors this offseason.

The move marks a return to the NL West for Ross, who was a postseason star for the Giants in 2010. Ross is a career .262 hitter with 122 homers and 452 RBIs in 887 games.

So the Dbacks are going to try the venerable five outfielder defense huh
The king was shaken. He went up to the room over the gateway and wept.
As he went, he said: "O my son Absalom! My son, my son Absalom!
If only I had died instead of you
O Absalom, my son, my son!"

I don't think Kevin Towers or the Diamondbacks have a long term plan. I really don't. The way he makes it publicly known for months that he wants to trade his star players, and then trades them for peanuts. The revolving door of mediocre outfielders (they signed Kubel last year! Why?). The terrible Heath Bell trade. Shitty player development.

Also why do you trade Chris Young, only to turn around and sign Cody Ross. You're trading great defense, for mediocre defense at best, and all it nets you is about .025 points added to your starting OFers batting average. Plus Ross is a lot more expensive.

Just about sums up any thoughts I would have. Ross is solid, but why downgrade the defense? They already have Kubel who is subpar defensively, and as you said, Ross is average at best. Sure, they have Parra, but he's also never played full-time.

They also had Bauer, and for now, have Upton. Why would you trade either? Any team trying to "rebuild" would love to have either player, much less both. It's stupid.
