Nick Swisher signs with the Indians

    Mark Feinsand ‏@FeinsandNYDN

BREAKING: Nick Swisher has agreed to a four-year, $56 million deal with the Indians. Vesting $14M option for a 5th year could make it $70M.
Will have to wait and see what it will take for the option to vest. But 4/56 looks pretty solid for a guy like Swisher. Too bad the Indians are no where close to competing. They should try trading Chris Perez to the Red Sox to further improve the team.

I hated him as a Yankee so seeing him on the Indians makes me hate him a little less. And if that was the cost to get him it seems about right for a guy of his caliber.

On twitter I read it came down to teams not wanting to give up a draft pick in order to sign him. Apparently Cleveland has a protected pick

I think Swisher is pretty underrated (well, up until October.) The rumors of him wanting a $100 million deal before the off-season started had me jaded a bit, but the Indians signed him to a pretty good contract. Given these terms, I wish the Orioles had signed him to play 1B for this coming season.

I don't think this should be a big deal for any of the teams with a protected pick, or teams picking late in the first round. Of course it also depends on the players. Getting Nick Swisher is a great pickup, but LOL at the team who gives up a draft pick in order to sign Kyle Lohse to a four year deal.

If teams with unprotected picks are too afraid to give them up, then this system is doing a good job of helping the bad teams rebuild.

Would much rather have the Kubel-Ross platoon at its price than Nick Swisher at his. Not really close.

Who gives a shit, you insufferable bridge troll. It's not as if either team had the option of either/or.

"Not really close". Yes it is, you smarmy prick. It's actually very close. Just stop.

Went to a Yankees game for the first time this summer. My buddy and I were in seats between 3rd base and right field. Swisher comes out and is all fan-friendly and enthusiastic ... and I say to my buddy, "Jeez, never knew this guy was this way. Seems pretty cool." A few weeks later I read at cnnsi.com that fellow players think he's one of the biggest phoneys in the league. Geez, way to wreck my only Yankees' game.

I love those Deadspin stories about him and Barry Zito just tearing up bars in SF/OAK when they were on the A's.

                  I wish I was Nick Swisher's friend.

Way to narrow down your seat location to half of the stadium.

I don't buy this. Swisher costs 14 million per year. The Ross/Kubel platoon is ~16 million per year.

I don't believe that the platoon would be able to maintain their current splits playing only part of the time either, plus you're wasting a roster spot, and sacrificing defense.

What about Ross for 3/26 or Victorino for 3/39?

Yeah, Sheehan is being a cock. I'm with you, plus i'd rather just play Kubel every day, his splits aren't even that drastic, he slugged like .450 last year against lefties and only had a slightly lower HR rate.
