Adam LaRoche & Nats Agree To 2-Year Deal

    Rotoworld

Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post was told by a source that the Nationals and Adam LaRoche have agreed to a two-year deal.

No word yet on the terms. LaRoche held out for a three-year deal for most of the offseason, but he wasn't able to find it in free agency or from the Nats. There's little doubt that his market was affected by him being tied to draft pick compensation. Now that he's back, the Nationals figure to dangle Mike Morse in trade talks, possibly as part of an effort to acquire a left-handed reliever.

I think MLB really needs to look at the current FA compensation. The pick was deemed too valuable by the Orioles, who held one near the end of the first round, to target LaRoche, and chances are they will begin (or have already begun) negotiations to land Mike Morse, who would be a good fit for them and be able to play multiple positions and DH. I don't think that's right, and ultimately hurts the FA in the market.

LaRoche should have gotten a three or four year deal, but was forced to take the two year one because no team wanted to make him an offer and lose the draft pick.
