We spend all week debating these geek players HOF credentials, meanwhile none of those bums belong in the same hall of fame as a guy like Musial.

One of the greatest to ever play. As in, you would be hard pressed to name five better before running into an argument. -
Has another player ever played 20+ seasons, and never finished below league average in OPS?
EDIT-found one other, Tony Gwynn.Comment

Sad to hear. One of the classiest ball players to ever play, in addition to being one of the all-time greats.
Been meaning to read the George Vecsey biography that was released last year. If anyone wants an ebook for your reader/phone/whatever, PM me an e-mail addy.

In 1943, Musial had 700 plate appearances and struck out 18 times.
He never struck out more than 46 times in a season.
He walked 1599 times against 696 strike outs.Comment

Basically the reason why I'm a Cardinals fan today. Obviously never got to see him play, but he was always someone I looked up to because of his accomplishments on and off-the-field.
Never gonna be another player like him in St. Louis.

I've always said that if I had a time machine the first thing I would do is go to an old baseball game.
Somewhere, somebody regrets not seeing Musial play live when they had the chance.
All of you m'fers need to get out to some games, so when we are old as fuck and these guys die, we can say, yeah, I saw Trout/Pujols/Votto/Cabrera/Gomes play.Comment
