    Gob's Fantasy Baseball Advice

As the commissioner of the only successful league in the history of VSN, I feel as though I have a lot of good information I could share with VSN. Here is my advice on running a successful league, and being good at fantasy baseball.

Advice #1: Listen to the Baseball Tonight podcast. Any time that a player is mentioned as showing up to spring training in the best shape of his life, he should be placed at the top of your draft board. Nothing else matters. These players are the breakout stars of the year. Don't believe me? Last week they talked about Mike Trout showing up with 15 extra pounds of muscle. Best shape of his life! I don't think anyone is dumb enough to argue that Trout won't be a great fantasy player in '13. I won't mention any other players because I believe you have to do your own scouting to be successful.

Advice #2: Always be trading. From April 1 to whenever the trade deadline is in your league (some obscure date in the middle of August in the VSN league), you should be working the chatbox, your AIM network, texting Warner...whatever it takes to get a deal done. Trade as much as possible. If you're not trading, then you're falling behind. If you don't trade your team will suck. Look at MvP, he doesn't trade in the VSN league, where has that got him? Never been to the playoffs and never been kissed [by a girl]. You do not want to be there. Don't be MvP, trade. If someone tells you they want your star player in a trade? Do it! Then trade your second and third best players too, if you're a good player this will improve your team.

    Advice #3:
Always make sure there are a few dumb asses in your league. This greatly improves your odds of victory. In the VSN league, this was Sigona. I was really sad to see Sigona go.

Advice #4: Vote to veto every trade. You don't want other people in your league to get ahead. And if trading is the way to get ahead (see advice #2), then you should stop them from trading. So veto every trade they make. There's no shame in vetoing, everyone is doing it. In the VSN league, Warner made a big trade to get ahead last year, but I worked with fellow division champion Bob Kuzzy to make sure the trade never happened. We won our divisions, and Warner backed into the playoffs as a wildcard. This year I'll be the favorite to win the division again, with Warner back to where he belongs spinning pizzas in third place in the division (he'd be in the cellar if it wasn't for cave troll FT). One successful trade veto will lead to multiple seasons of success for my team!

    Advice #5:
Stockpile players who are eligible to play multiple positions. If you have some scrappy hitter who can only play SS, he isn't worth much in fantasy. But if he can play SS AND 2B? |-|0L'/ $|-|17 L337 pL4'/3r! Now you definitely want one player like that on your team, but if you can get 3 or 5 players who play SS and 2B, that's great flexibility for you and the stuff of legend. For sure championship run if this strategy is used.

Advice #6: Stockpile 1B. Firstbase is the most valuable position. (According to Glenwillett). So you definitely want to stockpile these guys. Usually you can start 3 1B (one at 1B, and 2 at the utility spots). So you're going to want at least 6 1B on your roster. that way you can always play the hot hand. Players like Ryan Howard and Adam Dunn definitely go through a lot of cold spells so they're really not valuable for half the year. But you still want to draft them early in the draft and make them your keepers whenever possible.

I will update with more advice latter. Good luck with your fantasy seasons!

I will keep these tips in mind. I'm looking to move Verlander for one of these utility players. He can only start at SP and plays like every 5 days. Bullshit, fuck him.

Hi VSN, there was a lot of good information in my first post. Everyone here who plays fantasy baseball should master it, before I move on to more advanced advice. While I have consistently been the best owner in all of the VSN fantasy baseball leagues, I am also the best commissioner of any league on VSN (really not close). So I would also like to give some advice on running a successful league here on VSN.

Advice #7: Allow the people in your league to feel as though they have input in what is going on in the league. But never actually use their input at all, make all decisions on your own. This helps keep the troops in line, and feeling good about themselves without forfeiting one bit of power. As an example, I recently made a thread asking for nominations for an owner to replace Sigona in the fantasy baseball league. Did I actually listen to the nominations made, no? Hell I didn't even read most of them. As the commissioner I made the decision on my own, before I even created the nomination thread. I mean lets be honest folks, if the only person nominated was rudi, do you think I would have let rudi into the league? Hell fucking no.

      Advice #8:
Talking about the lack of s in my league, is a good segue into my next bit of advice. Don't let retards into your league. I never understand why the madden leagues on VSN consistently let people like OOBL and Big Bucs play. These people are nothing but problems. Do not include them in your league. If you have trouble identifying the OOBL's of VSN, then use a simple test to identify such problem posters and stick to it. For example, use the test, "No one who doesn't have car insurance will be allowed in the league." A test like that will quickly weed out all of the problem posters mentioned above, and make the league a lot better for those involved.

Advice #9: Don't let killgod join your league. This probably could have been grouped in with advice #8, but I decided to make it a separate point. Killgod is bad news, he's never run a successful league in his life. I myself originally made the mistake of including him in the VSN fantasy baseball league (a mistake I fixed after 1 year). The quality of my league greatly improved after I kicked kg to the curb. To prove this point, I took a random sample of owners in the league and asked them about their experience in the league before and after kg was kicked out of the league. The sample will stay anonymous, but we will call him[or her] Owner N.
Owner N's thoughts on the league with KG in it: In 2011 the league sucked. I really didn't have any interest due to some of the other people in the league, and often times I forgot to even set my weekly lineup, and I wasted my weekly waiver pickups on shitbums who I never started, instead of awesome 1B prospects (ADVICE #6!!!).

Owner N's thoughts on the league without KG in it: I had a lot of fun playing in the league in 2012. It was probably one of the greatest experiences of my life. I started to take some of Gob's fantasy advice into consideration, and it really improved my team. I even acquired a 1B via trade from that dumb ass woy!

Well, that's pretty damning evidence that kg sucks. Don't let him into your league folks! If KG is the commissioner of a league your in, then I feel bad for you son. All I can suggest is mutiny.

Advice #10: Make the rules of the league overly complex. This is another good way to maintain power. If the rules are too complex to understand, and other owners will like get frustrated and make a stupid move. This gives you a competitive advantage, since you understand the rules and will not make a stupid mistake. If an owner asks for clarification on a rule, you should ridicule them for being stupid and from the state of Florida.

Advice #11: You should never be nice to the owners in your league. Rule your league with an iron fist and do whatever you want. It's also best to make fun of people in your league as much as possible, this helps to maintain your own authority. I regularly criticize and ridicule the owners in my league, an example of this can be found here: http://www.virtualsportsnetwork.com/...aseball-Advice

Follow my example, and your league will be in good hands.

I will post more advice latter, in the meantime, if you have any questions, please post them.

This is a good idea Youk. Quantity>quality. That rule always stands true in fantasy baseball. You should be able to swap Verlander for two or three quality fantasy players. Sometimes folks forgot that fantasy baseball isn't the NBA, you can't count the number of white people in the building on one hand, in our league each team starts 18 players every week! You need quantity. Going for quality will get you no where.

Oh and if it takes you 2-3 hours a week to administer a madden league, you suck. Obviously not following my advice on how to be a commissioner.

The Red Sox have taken this advice and have traded for 1B Mike Carp. Bravo.
