I have a good friend who is a part of Dodgers security.

he was in the main office/hub for a while but he found a full time job so they moved him to right next to the Dodger dugout. The best demotion ever ! it upset a woman who they took the position from

While I'm waiting to hear about the suspensions coming from last night's stupid ass brawl, some good news. The team signed both the first and second round picks from the draft (among others). I didn't double check the numbers, but I believe they are right at or very close to the slot amounts.

The Dodgers have DFA'd Ramon Hernandez. This now leaves 39 men on the 40-man roster and leads me to wonder if we're going to see a player added to it soon via trade or call-up.

I've heard rumors of Zach Lee cracking the rotation either this year or next year, and the consensus is that if and when he makes the 25-man, it's not for Magill/Fife-esque spot starts. Once Lee is in the rotation, he's staying there. It would obviously be exciting to have our best pitching prospect delivering the goods at the MLB-level, but only if he's ready (Magill - not ready). We'll see what happens.

As of right now the rotation is:

Kershaw, Greinke, Ryu, and then whoever in the combination of Beckett, Lilly, Capuano, Fife, etc. that's healthy enough to start. It would sure be nice to slot in Zach Lee at number 4 to solidify that spot while the broken brothers start at the 5th spot. If they're all healthy and Lee is up, that spot goes to Beckett while Lilly and Capuano would stay in bullpen or get DFA'd/traded. I'm a fan of the notion of DFA'ing Ted Lilly while keeping Cap in the 'pen.

All of that is purely speculation from me, so we'll see what happens.

              I've never voted.

I think Puig's best chances are if he gets hand-picked by Bruce Bochey or this "Last Vote" shit that they'll do this week.

                From TBLA:

The Los Angeles Dodgers sent injured outfielder Carl Crawford and starting pitcher Ted Lilly to their High-A affiliate for rehab assignments, and the two came away with mixed results after Sunday's game in Rancho Cucamonga.

Crawford, who hasn't played since June 1 with a right hamstring strain, went 2-for-3 and came out of the game after five innings (as planned). Crawford, who lead things off as the designated hitter, slapped a grounder through the 5-6 hole for a single. He later came around to score in the same inning, sprinting from second on a bloop single that required an immediate test of the hamstring.

Crawford told me his hamstring feels good after being able to test a few times in his first rehab game. Of course, it will be how Crawford feels tomorrow after rest and recovery, that is more important as well as telling.

Things didn't go as well for Crawford's fellow Dodgers member, Ted Lilly, who allowed four runs on five hits and two walks while striking out four in three innings of work. The southpaw came out of the game in the fourth inning, after being struck by a liner off of Brandon Meredith's bat.

Lilly said the liner hit him directly in his left shin, where he had ice wrapped around it when discussing his rehab start. But the reason for his exit was a combination of pitch count, which Lilly said was a maximum of 75, and the injury -- not wanting to force it since he'd require at least another start.

While Lilly said he felt fine as far as his health goes, his mechanics and timing were out of whack as the southpaw failed to get into any kind of rhythm on the mound. When asked how many more rehab starts he would need, Lilly wasn't so sure, but did admit he would definitely need another one after.
So Crawford and Ted Lilly are looking to return imminently. Mattingly said something awesome last week about the crowded outfield and it was basically along the lines of "I'm going to put the best outfield out there for each game" and that he's not going to aim for equal playing time. That is music to my ears because Ethier has been needing to be platooned for, I'm pretty sure, his entire career. It also makes for better bats off of the bench if Crawford's return doesn't send Scott Van Slyke to the minors - as of right now, the Dodgers don't have a decent lefty bench bat so if that can be any one of Crawford, Ethier, or Gonzalez getting a partial day off while some combination of each other, Puig, and Scott Van Slyke is starting in their place then I'm all the more happy for it. Also, the Dodgers don't really have a decent righty bench bat either (lol) so we really need to have someone like Van Slyke coming in to hit late in games.

Anyways, a line-up with a healthy Hanley Ramirez, Carl Crawford, Adrian Gonzalez, and Yasiel Puig has not been seen this year. Kemp looks healthy too - at least his legs, so if he can keep getting on base while leaving Skip Schumaker, Elian Herrera, and Andre Ethier out of center field then I'm all the happier for it.

The Dodgers are clearly playing their best baseball of the year right now, and the time is perfect since the rest of the division is doing terribly. The next series is in Colorado and it will put Kershaw and Greinke on the mound, so this a golden opportunity to keep the ball rolling and make a run at getting out of last place.

TBLA - Luis Cruz declines minor league assignment, now a free agent

Dodgers infielder Luis Cruz has cleared waivers but declined his assignment to Triple-A Albuquerque, the club announced on Tuesday before their game against the Rockies at Coors Field, per Dylan Hernandez of the LA Times. Cruz is now a free agent.

Cruz, 29, was designated for assignment on Friday to make room on the active roster for outfielder Scott Van Slyke, who was activated from the disabled list. Cruz, who is out of options, had the right to decline his minor league assignment because he had been previously outrighted to the minors in his career.

It has been a rough year for Cruz, who was handed the third base job out of spring training. Cruz, who had a dream season almost out of nowhere in 2012, hitting .297/.322/.431 with 20 doubles and 40 RBI in 78 games, hit just .127/.175/.169 in 2013. In 45 games, he had 15 hits in 118 at-bats.

Cruz will now likely sign a minor league deal elsewhere, and add to his 4,891 career minor league plate appearances as he tries to work his way back to the majors.

Overall in 123 games with the Dodgers, Cruz hit .247/.278/.354 with seven home runs and 22 doubles in 424 plate appearances.

Matt Kemp hit a home run. Hanley Ramirez was very happy about it.

Indeed. Loney has a higher WAR than Adrian Gonzalez now
