Angels Will Eat 76% of $42M Owed to Vernon Wells

    According to Rosenthal...

Source: Deal not done, but #Angels will pay at least $32M of $42M owed Wells. #Yankees' obligation will be less than $10M over two years.
Anyone know the most money a team's consumed just to get rid of a bloated contract?

    THANK GOD.....

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Angels will cover $29 million of the $42 million owed to Vernon Wells in their trade with the Yankees.
The deal still isn't done, but it looks like the Yankees will have to pay Wells somewhere around $13 million over two years, which is still expensive for a fourth outfielder. Wells has already waived his no-trade clause and his nameplate has been removed from the Angels' clubhouse. A deal should be finalized Monday.

Anything on what the Angels are getting outside of 12-13 million in salary relief?

A few Derek Jeter "limo farewell" gift bags and some semblance of pride.

Seriously though I think this is just to open a spot on the active roster. Kole Calhoun will act as an extra outfielder for the time being and Trumbo will probably get some OF run too. Travis Witherspoon will likely be ready to come up at some point this year and if not surely by the time Wells' contract ends.

Overall a great move by Tony Reagins to bring this guy in a couple years ago.

Low-level minor leaguer is the belief.

That was a huge head scratcher at the time. Honestly I though Juan Rivera would've been enough, but I got this vibe from the Reagin regime that they simply didn't believe in Napoli for whatever reason, because how else do you explain letting him go?

Going back in time, would you prefer keeping Napoli at 1B and not signing Pujols?

It has to be Trumbo doesn't it? Unless he's playing 3rd. Right now the 3 OF are Trout, Hamilton, and Bourjos?

And how funny is it that the Yanks are willing to pay 13MM to a useless Vernon Wells instead of having Juan Rivera temporarily play OF for next to no money. I'm so glad he managed to stay with the Dodgers' MLB club for the whole season last year! Way to go, Donnie and Ned!
