Johan Santana's Mets Career Likely Done - Probable Re-Tear of Shoulder Capsule

He has a probably re-tear of his anterior capsule in the left shoulder. He may undergo a second surgery which would cost him the rest of the season and potentially his career as a whole.

If this is it, he'll earn his $25.5M for 2013 and the $5.5M buyout for next year taking him into free agency.

In 4 years in NY, his final line:

    46-34, 109 GS, 717 IP, 3.18 ERA, 9 CG, 6 SHO, 1 No Hitter, 1.201 WHIP, 7.6 SO/9, 2.5 BB/9.

Alderson said of Zach Wheeler, "We will bring him up when he is ready. No immediate need will impact that."

Shy of the no hitter, Santana's best performance had to be his final start at Shea in 2008.

With 2 games left and making a push to earn a playoff spot, four days after going 8 innings on (a career high) 125 pitches to beat the Cubs, he pitched a gem against the Marlins.

A 3-hit complete game shutout with 3-days rest…later revealed he did so with a torn meniscus in his knee.

(Unfortunately, the next day to close the regular season, the bullpen allowed two home runs in a loss and the Brewers took the wildcard spot)

            Mets lost

Feel bad for the guy, when he was healthy he was one of my favorite pitchers to watch.
