    Jered Weaver Out 4-6 Weeks

The Angels have placed ace Jered Weaver on the 15-day DL with a nondisplaced radial head fracture of the left (nonpitching) elbow, the team announced. The team says he will miss a minimum of four weeks while CBSSports.com's Scott Miller hears it could be four-to-six weeks.

“It's pretty painful,” Weaver said to reporters after leaving Sunday's start with what the team initially called a strained left elbow. “It feels like a really bad jam. I definitely hyperextended it or something.”

Weaver, 30, hurt himself when he landed awkwardly while ducking a line drive. He was removed from the game immediately. He had thrown 98 pitches, allowing five runs in five innings.

The Angels figure to use either Garrett Richards or Jerome Williams in their rotation as Weaver's replacement. The recently designated for assignment Aaron Harang could be a trade option as well. The club has recalled righty Dane De La Rosa for the time being.

Weaver missed three weeks with a lower back strain last year. He is one of several aces who has shown diminished fastball velocity early in the season.

Luckily we don't have a tough schedule during these weeks.

I couldn't tell from the replay, but it didn't look like the ball hit him. Did he just roll on it bad? Or slam in to the ground?
The king was shaken. He went up to the room over the gateway and wept.
As he went, he said: "O my son Absalom! My son, my son Absalom!
If only I had died instead of you
O Absalom, my son, my son!"

Sucks to hear about his non-throwing elbow but that doesn't explain why his pitching arm is shot too.

Yeah this isn't an excuse for him being terrible.

Averaged 86 MPH on fastballs last night. 85.5 on two seamers.

He pitched a good six. The earned runs last night are totally on the manager IMO.

Although seeing what the bullpen brought to the table it's a little easier to understand why they chose to roll the dice with Weaver.

I am impressed with Weaver and how he still manages to pitch well despite the loss in velocity over the last few seasons. He never was a hard thrower to begin with, averaging 90.2 MPH during his rookie season, but losing almost 4 MPH off that pitch is a big difference. Shame that they couldn't do more when Weaver was pitching at his best.
