ERA doesn't take errors into account, and I actually don't dispute he's a top 10 pitcher talent-wise ... but everything tells me I don't give him $147 million. Get back to me at the end of this contract (and I'm a stats geek who believes in PER and WAR) when Grienke isn't worth that investment.

No, I'm not kidding you. Yes, Greinke is a pitcher with great stuff, but what has he actually proven? Cy Young? No. 20-win season? No. World Series MVP or even close? No. Historic stats? No. When the Dodgers announced that signing, my reaction was the same as the Boston Red Sox trade ... are you kidding? The guy has never won more than 16 games in a season and has admitted he has a personality disorder. I am not bashing him for that, but I am also not handing him a $147-million contract.

Greinke has a Cy Young, and it was one of the best individual pitching seasons in recent memory.

Again, at the end of the day, get back to me when Greinke's contract is up and ask if he was worth the money. IMO, the Dodgers did this for the same reason they took on those insane Red Sox contracts, just to seem relevant vs. the Angels.
