    Should Pirates extend Pedro Alvarez?

26, under team control through 29. So they would be buying post 30 seasons.

Hit 30 HR's last year. Has gone from brutal defender to average defender.

This guy says "no thanks": http://www.bucsdugout.com/2013/6/17/...rez-no-just-no

Remember, they signed Jose Tabata to a wacky (inexpensive) long term deal, one that they can buy out at any time during the final three years for $250k. But thanks to the 30 HR season, they won't get Alvarez that cheap.

    Nope.

Get those 26-29 peak years and cut loose. Maybe if you can keep him until 31-32 but I wouldn't do beyond that.

Still struggles vs. lefties and he'll disappear for a couple weeks at a time, only to of course turn into Ted Williams for the next two weeks. I'm a big fan of his but I don't feel he's ever going to be a top flight regular, destined to bounce around the AL ala Mark Reynolds or Luke Scott, I fear.
