    Chicago Cubs

Marmol was designated for assignment on June 25, giving the Cubs a 10-day period to trade him or give him his unconditional release. He has a limited no-trade clause with six teams he could block, including the Dodgers.
It's unknown which player or players the Dodgers would send to Chicago.
Marmol is owed more than $5 million on his $9.8 million for this season, and another source said the Dodgers will absorb some of the money owed. He's ending a three-year, $21 million contract with the Cubs, who are the only team he's played for in the majors.
Marmol can become a free agent after this season.
The 30-year-old Marmol went 2-4 with a 5.86 ERA in 31 relief appearances this season. He has struggled for parts of the past three seasons. He struck out 32 and walked 21 in 27 2/3 innings this season. He had 10 blown saves with a 4.01 ERA in 2011 and has lost his closer role several times.
Marmol has 117 saves over eight seasons with the Cubs. His best season as a closer came in 2010 when he had 38 saves, a 2.55 ERA and 138 strikeouts in 77 2/3 innings.

It's just for cash, so why not? Maybe they can figure something out in his delivery or a tweak, if not, send him on his way.

Dexter Fowler just got placed on 15-day DL so that means this road trip in Colorado just got that much more winnable (Tulo is gone, too). Unfortunately, NL West Destroyer Carlos Gonzalez is in the line-up and playing where he wreaks the most destruction.

          Kershaw versus Oswalt: GO!

Nationals going up against the Brewers without Gomez, Segura, Braun, and Hart, against a starting pitcher with an ERA over 5 and Strasburg on the bump. Stras goes 7, doesn't give up a run. Nats down 4-0 in the 8th.
The king was shaken. He went up to the room over the gateway and wept.
As he went, he said: "O my son Absalom! My son, my son Absalom!
If only I had died instead of you
O Absalom, my son, my son!"

Every team in the NL West lost except for the Dodgers tonight. Kershaw threw a complete game shutout in Coors field (apparently, he's only the 21st pitcher to do that) on the same night that Giants got no-hit by Homer Bailey.

The Dodgers are now in a virtual tie for 3rd place with the San Diego Padres, two and a half games back from the Diamondbacks.

Homer Bailey is annoyed at a stupid question:

"Those guys up there" are Marty & THOM Brennaman, the cranky father/son Reds broadcasting duo, dad who does radio, son who does TV. They've not been nice to Bailey's slow developing career arc over the years. Get 'em, Homer.

So, Heyman's sources say the Marlins want to give Nolasco away for cap relief, while getting minor prospects.

LOL, someone was talking about this at work. Unfucking real. Guy throws his second career no-no and you are gonna quibble with him about it not being a perfecto?

"This game is pretty tough" is not something you'd think a player would need to point out in this situation, but alas.

Right out of the gate too, just an awful question to ask, he even brought up the lone Pirates walk in last year's no hitter lol. WTF is he thinking? Way to shit on the dudes parade and to be totally tone deaf to the situation. Not the time or place to grill the dude on a walk.

Mindblowing lack of perspective there. Just an absurd question to ask.

It'd be like if you dropped a down payment on a beautiful new home for you and your significant other, and she immediately walks in and says "do you regret not splurging a little for a wok grill in the kitchen?"

                                Harvey has been better.

Lower ERA, FIP, xFIP, SIERA, WHIP, more strikeouts (in 8 less innings), and has allowed 37 less hits (76 - 113).

Harvey is allowing less baserunners, less runs, and is striking out more batters per 9 by a pretty wide margin. Wainwright is walking less batters, it's really the only area he's been better, but that's mitigated by the fact that nobody can get a hit off of Harvey, and Harvey only has 24 walks, so it's not like he's letting guys on, period.

Yes, many of the categories are close, but Harvey has been better to this point.
