A lot of predicted that the Blue Jays would make the playoffs in 2013, or at least be in contention. Obviously that backfired quicker then a National's playoff run in October. Assuming they don't have a Jeffery Loria like fire sale this winter, they will be stuck with mostly the same roster next year. Is there any hope for this club?
Fixing this team starts and ends with the starting pitching in my opinion. Their starters have a 5.10 ERA this year, second worst in MLB. When 34 year old Mark Buehrle is far and away your best starter, you know you've got problems. I don't see Josh Johnson resigning with Toronto this offseason, but Buehrle, Dickey, Happ, and Morrow are all locked into expensive deals that will be hard to move. With 4/5 of their rotation locked in, and 110 million in salary commitments to 12 players in 2014, the Blue Jays don't have much flexibility to improve the team. Can they do it, or can we write them off already?
