Cardinals Acquire John Axford

The move itself confuses me, but I think that Mujica's recent shoulder issue forced the Cardinals to do something.

Michael Blazek is the PBTNL. 24-year-old right-hander that throws 95-98 MPH out of the pen, has okay breaking stuff, but struggles with his control. I don't like giving him up and thought he could help a lot in the pen next year, but he was down in line on the pitcher "depth chart".

Doesn't make a ton of sense to trade a young arm with upside for Axford. I don't get this trade. They must not think they can work with Blazek.

I'm happy with the trade. Axford is a turd, and no way the Brewers could have afforded him on his salary next year. He is making 5 million this year and will get a raise in arbitration.

I'm not familiar with Blazek, but it looks like he has a good chance of fitting into the bullpen puzzle in 2014. You can never have enough cheap bullpen arms.
