Aren't the Astros the most profitable team in baseball though?

Yup. New TV deal, revenue sharing, & a ridiculously low payroll.

This is the Marlins model (kinda), be terrible, pay the players nothing, stockpile money, then spend it when you are in a position to win.

I'd rather be less profitable and either make more money, or have more wins. If I'm the Astros ownership, I'd be embarrassed by that showing at a game, even if it is the Mariners.

So you'd rather be the Tigers?
The king was shaken. He went up to the room over the gateway and wept.
As he went, he said: "O my son Absalom! My son, my son Absalom!

Wow, that looks like even less people than when I went last year.

I wish it was always like that, pretty ideal. A much more pleasant experience when the place is nearly deserted. Pick whatever seat you want, no concession stands, empty restroom etc...

It's a nice park. Especially when you just happened to go for a jog two hours prior to first pitch and it was a 105 degrees outside. I always thought indoor sports were stupid. Then I sat in the Crawford seats under the AC vents. Genius move.

My Wife works in HR there, but anyway yesterday was Dallas vs Houston. Everyone was either drinking watching the game or drove to watch it. Not to mention we had 13,000 here at reliant watching the University of Houston.

It was also dollar hot dog day.

I agree with this, but the flip side is the atmosphere during the game itself is dreadful.

Nothing worse than a two run double up the gap, met with complete silence. Makes you feel like you're at a high school game.

When it's dead like this, the players and umps can hear all the stupid shit you say. That's fun.

This was proven false. The Astros aren't making that much off of the tv deal because the local affiliate (FSN Houston or whatever) isn't being carried by most of the cable/satellite providers in Houston.

Didn't know this was debunked. Thanks.

It's Comcast Sports Houston. DirecTV doesn't carry it either, so all Astros games are blacked out for me and I live 90 minutes from the stadium. FSN Houston no longer exists. Rockets moved to CSN as well, leaving FSN Houston with no programming.

Pretty crazy that most people in Houston can't get the games. I would be very upset with my cable provider if they cut FSN Wisconsin, and switch immediately.

Of course once the Astros attempt to be competitive again, all the providers will pick the channel up again. I assume once they believe the farm is ready to start producing ML talent, the Astros will also see an influx of free agent talent, as they kick up payroll and try to be competitive. That is a few years away though.
