    Dodgers add Michael Young

    But I don't know why.

    Uribe 2013: .722 OPS., 103 OPS+, 25.8 UZR/150, 2.8 WAR
    Young 2013: .722 OPS, 99 OPS+, -16.2 UZR/150, 0.0 WAR
The Dodgers sent Rob Rasmussen to the Phillies, so I suppose it's a zero cost trade as rosters expand, so maybe the question should be "why not?" Rasmussen isn't very good and was acquired for Jon Ely last winter.

Yeah, I guess we should assume that Puig will be on the straight and narrow from here on out.

What are the stats of the bench bats?
The king was shaken. He went up to the room over the gateway and wept.
As he went, he said: "O my son Absalom! My son, my son Absalom!
If only I had died instead of you
O Absalom, my son, my son!"

          As a PH, Young (career): .227/.296/.227.... .524 OPS (only 27 PA)* ... in 2013 he only has 10 ABs as a sub; 2 hits, 1 BB, 2 K

          Current bench (2013): .191 /.268 /.277.... .545 OPS (322 PA)*

I got these numbers from the "Starter or Sub" Split on baseball-reference.

Complete splits including home/road, lefty/righty, clutch situations, vs. opponent, by month, by role, and many more

As for the Dodgers current bench, it's large since it's September.

Righties: Scott Van Slyke, Jerry Hairston Jr., Tim Federowicz (2 catcher), Drew Butera (3 catcher), Michael Young starting Sept. 2
Lefties: Skip Schumaker, Dee Gordon (pinch runner only, probably).
          Switch: Nick Punto

Plus when Kemp arrives (probably in Cincy next week) there will be another in the combo of Kemp, Crawford, or Ethier who didn't start the game.

For what it's worth, Mattingly has stated that Uribe will remain the starting 3B, which is the right decision due to his defense. It's also been reported that Young knew that he would be in a reduced role and accepted that when he waived his no-trade clause. I guess they want to use him to pinch hit and play 1B or 3B here and there as needed. Personally, I prefer Scott Van Slyke at first base if you want a right-handed lefty masher, but

It could be fun when Kemp is back if Mattingly wanted an all-righty lineup against some tough lefty:

          OF: Puig, Kemp, Van Slyke
INF: Young 1B, MEllis 2B, Ramirez SS, Uribe 3B
          C: AJEllis/Fedex

I hope they beat the time for Young to be allowed on the playoff roster. I didn't see this late last night.
