Edgar Martinez over Ken Griffey Jr? WTF. So wrong

Griffey is the single most loved athlete in our state ever.

        Edgar Martinez over Griffey?

I find that hard to believe, but i'm hardly in tune with Seattle sports culture.

Also, Mantle. It's Mantle. And if you're younger, it's Donnie Baseball or Jeetuh.

Considering I'm living in the Washington area I can easily say the most beloved national CURRENTLY is Stephen Strasburg. No one has given 2 shits about Zimmerman since Bryce came to town and there's a good amount of people out there who find Bryce to be a strange character in terms of how he acts off the field.

I can understand the argument for Zimmerman though. No one will ever forget his walk off home run to end the first game played in the Nats stadium.

No surprise on Cal Ripken. Brooks Robinson could be close, but with Ripken's name and his consecutive game streak, no contest.

Edgar Martinez does surprise me, but since Griffey went to the Reds at the peak of his career, I can see why they would go with someone else, especially given his 18 years with Seattle and all the work he did in the community.

I knew it would be Salmon. I don't get Garrett Anderson though. I know a lot of people who thought of him as a loafer.

No surprise with Cal. I hold Earl Weaver, Brooks and Frank in very high regard as well.

There are also players like Surhoff and Bordick but only because they were big names for us when i was a wee pip.

Dodgers had Fernando Valenzuela as top choice. I can give them that. I have a bone to pick with "others considered" though. They only mentioned Sandy Koufax and Mike Piazza.

Mike Piazza? Really? Did no one think to consider Jackie fuckin Robinson? The only player who's number is retired through all of baseball....

Handful of Dodgers who are more beloved than Mike Piazza:
                  Tommy Lasorda
                  Orel Hershiser
                  Don Newkcome
                  Mike Scioscia
                  Don Drysdale
                  Roy Campanella
                  Duke Snider

LaSorda, Robinson and Hershiser over Piazza without a doubt. Eric Karros would be another solid contemporary Dodger favorite.

Gibby was on the Dodgers for less than two years, he's more beloved than Mike Piazza.
