    Mariners retaining Zduriencik for 2014

The Seattle Mariners have confirmed that general manager Jack Zduriencik will return for the 2014 season.

"Yes, Jack will be back," team president Chuck Armstrong told the Seattle Times.

Zduriencik has been with the Mariners, who are wrapping up their fourth consecutive losing season, since 2009. Seattle is 20 games below .500 entering Wednesday's game.

"You always operate on the basis that you're going to keep doing the job," Zduriecik told the Times. "That's what I've been doing."

Among decisions yet to be made is the status of manager Eric Wedge, whose contract runs out at the end of the season.

Eric Wedge needs to go, I just can't approve of bringing both of those guys back.

As far as Jack Z, some of his recent moves have worked out. James Paxton and Taijuan Walker look like they could be in the rotation next season joining an already great 1-2 with Felix and Iwakuma. Then you got to figure Danny Hultzen should be up there eventually if his injury isn't very serious. On offense Justin Smoak looked a little better this year but still has a long ways to go, and hopefully the other young guys Franklin, Miller and Zunino continue to improve. Kendrys Morales was a great sign and I figure him to be back in 2014. So there is some hope with this team, a lot of our deals and prospects haven't worked out well under Jack Z but this last season was the first time in a long time I felt hopeful with where they are going. Bullpen and more bats are in need this off-season if they don't want to continue having 500 people show up to Mariners games.
