Lest I be accused of being too harsh on Dusty, I like the guy and think he's an accomplished and distinguished manager. One of the 10 best of his contemporaries, and more often than not he had a solid handle on the job. He had his annoying quirks like any other manager, but overall I think he was a good skipper.
I just love the hell out of the memes, I mean who can turn down this?

With Baker speaking freely, we are finding out where some of the bodies are buried. Clearly Dusty wont be exchanging Xmas cards with Walt Jocketty.
-Jocketty asked Baker to fire Brook Jacoby, Baker refused.
-They clashed over Chapman's role.
-Baker yesterday publicly bashed Jocketty for not acquiring Marlon Byrd.
-Baker says he had to "fight" to get Billy Hamilton called up in September.
-Apparently Jocketty nearly acquired Cliff Lee at the deadline in 2010, but the Mariners chose Justin Smoke over Yonder Alonso at the 11th hour.
-Baker said today "During my time here, we didn't add much (at the deadline)."
-Bob Castellini was irate at Baker for his handling of the Phillips/Rosecrans blow up in Dusty's office.Comment

Warner makes a good point. The Reds can obviously do better then Dusty at manager, but they could also go backwards here. There's a lot of incompetent managers in MLB, and the reds could easily hire one. Look around at the thirty guys who had jobs this year, how many do you really consider good managers? When I think about most of these guys, I think, "yeah he sucks."
I've always seen manager as a short term gig. Let a new guy come in and light a fire under the players' ass. Once he gets stale, and the bullpen management becomes questionable, the late game decisions start to fail, get rid of him. Easy scapegoat, fans do it all the time, no reason for GMs to be any different.Comment
