They probably aren't done shopping, but this looks pretty funny right now even with Cano in there.

Great sign for the Mariners, people don't understand how hard it is for Seattle to attract a top player. They whiffed on getting Hamilton, Fielder, Ellsbury, Upton, etc... Seattle has to overpay for these type of guys, but they have a lot of money to work with and Cano/Felix are the only players signed beyond 2014.
Mariners still need to get more hitters to take them to the next level, so hopefully one out of either Zunino, Ackley or Montero will breakout and can sign a couple more guys. They have the pitchers and adding Cano will help put fans in the seats, they moving in the right direction but still have a ways to go.Comment

I don't think we'll trade Walker. Too much talent and super cheap. I think Paxton is the arm they will trade.
Tons of money spent on Cano but that's the only way you're bringing a player of his caliber to Seattle at the moment. We have tons of money and if we can build a winner, it'll make it easier to get good players out here.Comment

I understand having to spend money to get players to come in. Years ago, the Orioles had "confederate" money as no one would really take it until Miguel Tejada had no other option.
However, looking at that lineup is all that you need to know right now. It was not the time to sign Cano, by the time this team is ready to compete, he will already be on his downward track. The fact that people are saying that the Mariners need to make another big splash for David Price, plus another bat like Beltran or Cruz, should indicate that there is plenty to do with this roster.Comment

Scott Boras would have gotten a better deal for Cano.
I get Jay Z is a great rapper and businessman, but as baseball agents go, he and his partners couldn't touch Scott Boras with a 10-foot pole. Boras likely would have gotten this deal done with the Yankees, not the Mariners. Instead, Jay Z and his sports agents went over the top and put Cano in Seattle when he could have stayed in New York.
There's no doubt Jay Z will play the race card and get many great sports clients, but Scott Boras is the better baseball player agent. My Twitch video link: http://www.twitch.tv/dave374000

If you aren't trading Walker then you'll need to lower expectations of what you get in return imo. If the Mariners balk at moving Walker, then the Rays go to a team like the DBacks and check on Bradley. If the DBacks balk with Bradley they go to the Pirates and check on Taillon and Polanco. It boils down to whoever is running the Mariners wanting to bring in a CY Young pitcher to go along with Cano. Jack Z is a terrible GM all things considered, and nobody is really sure why he still has a job. Maybe the ownership group that kept him around told him you can stay on board, but we are pulling some of the strings this offseason because we want to increase the attendance. Who knows what is going on in these front offices but it has been pretty fucking fun so far, and we haven't even done the winter meetings yet .
We're not at the point where we need to move Walker. If they are insisting on Walker, then try and sign a free agent pitcher like Ubaldo or Garza. If everything else fails, we then may look at moving Walker.Comment
