As I mentioned on Twitter, I'm a big fan of this signing. I don't think Pierzynski is anything special, but I'd much rather have a platoon of him and Ross for '14 while Vazquez/Swihart develop further instead of overpaying for a bum like Saltalamacchia. I suppose if nothing else he'll cut down on the strikeouts by about a bajillion % compared to Salty. He's not an OBP guy by any means, but makes more contact than Salty, and when you look at their numbers, Salty's career .310 OBP is actually worse than Pierzynski's. This year was the first in which he broke the .300 mark as a full-time player.

Very solid, nothing wrong with trotting out a platoon of AJ and Ross. I still can't believe Salty got that much from the Marlins, good job not to overpay as well.

As if games in Boston weren't slow enough, Mr. Looks-at-more-pitches-than-anyone will now be getting regular at-bats for the next year.
