From Fangraphs: What Would it Take for Andrelton Simmons to Be MVP?

Andrelton Simmons is awesome. If you are reading this article on FanGraphs.com right now, this comes as no surprise to you. And I’m not using “awesome” in the way people use it to describe the latest…

Good read, fascinating question. How much offense would the best defensive SS of all time have to provide in order to make him the most valuable player in the league? If he keeps making contact at this rate, while continuing to add power, we could find out very soon.

Hard to say since Omar Vizquel is retired now.

Similar offensive production to Dustin Pedroia in 2008? Seems pretty obvious that the writers consider defensive utility a distant second to hitting performance. At least, when dealing with position players as candidates for MVP.
The king was shaken. He went up to the room over the gateway and wept.
As he went, he said: "O my son Absalom! My son, my son Absalom!
If only I had died instead of you
O Absalom, my son, my son!"

Vizquel isn't even ahead of Ozzie.
