    Time for expansion?

Interesting proposition by Jeff Zimmerman via twitter.

If they want to increase scoring, just put the DH in both leagues.

You expand because the demand for your product exceeds your supply and if you don't supply more, the people will go somewhere else. Is the demand for baseball exceeding the supply?

    No poll?

What cities would be ready to support a MLB team right now? Portland doesn't have a park, Vegas will never happen and I can't imagine MLB ever going back to Montreal. I haven't really kept up with this, what other cities have been rumored?

There was a study that concluded a third team in New York (won't happen), Vancouver, North Carolina, Portland, Nashville and Montreal were the most viable candidates. But all of them had major drawbacks.

I love expansion, the more the merrier i always say. If i had to get down to it and figure out 2 cities i'd probably say Charlotte and Indy. Charlotte has upward of 2 million people and 2 major sports teams. (The Carolina Hurricanes don't play in Charlotte) Indy has the Pacers and the Colts which have a good following. I know both these cities are part of other teams territories but they deserve a team.

Indianapolis has a great AAA ballpark and they seem to support the team pretty well. They're on my short list.

Biggest obstacle to expansion is convincing owners to give up territorial rights (see: Angelos/Nationals dispute) ... Braves would not want a team in Nashville or North Carolina, Cardinals and the Chicago clubs would not want a team in Indiana etc.

Speaking of that. The Orioles and Nats on MASN extend all the way down into NC so it would not only affect The Barves but also the O's and

On second thought, no team in Charlotte.

Expansion would only be a temporary fix, just like it always has been. And that's even if a fix is needed. This is the way it will always be. The pitchers will eventually adjust, the talent will catch up, and offense will go down. I'd rather wait 5-10 years and see if this stablizes like it appears to be doing now. There has only been a small reduction in scoring.

I'm for it, as long as one of the teams is the Expos. Montreal and Portland?

                      Expos and Beavers.

                      Who doesn't love exposing beavers?

I'd love to see the league expand by two teams, just for the sake of having some new teams/cities/stadiums in the league. I think MLB has a few teams to deal with first (A's, Rays) before worrying about expansion, however.

Also, obst posted this in the chatbox. It's pretty interesting when talking about expansion and seeing where the fan boundaries lie (not just the television rights boundaries)

San Jose should have a team before any new teams get added.
