    Tampa Bay Rays

Opening pitch of the season in about 30 minutes in Boston...

Any other Rays fans here at VSN?

Yippee, I've got a thread all to myself.

Rays get their first win in impressive fashion in Boston. Longoria and Pena went yard. Kaz didn't have good stuff but still pitched a solid game. A good night for the Rays. Garza vs Dice-K tomorrow, these teams always have great pitching matchups.

It's obviously very early, but I'm a little concerned with our bullpen. JP Howell has looked bad so far, Wheeler is his usual crappy self and, just like last year, it will be an adventure with Percival as closer. I hope the bullpen steps up their game or they will be the achilles heel of the team.

I luled when I saw a Rays highlight and there was like 1 row deep of fans in the outfield. I can't wait til all there "fans" start showing up in september ringing their cowbells. (No ill will was meant towards the fans in this thread.) This really annoys the hell out of me for some reason.

I was just saying it was kind of funny that even after winning an AL championship, they still can't get more people to come, no need to get so touchy, lol, not taking a shot at the team.

(And I guess it annoys me because it is nearly impossible for me to see my team play, but people down there don't really care, taking a good team in the Rays for granted.)

Just like any team, the fans get into it pretty good when a big play happens. It's been a long time coming since the days of Bubba Trammel and Wade Boggs but eventually people there will realize what a great team they got and their attendance numbers will rise.

I'm sure they are already looking into building a new stadium in a few years for them.
Yeah, the Trop has a very artificial feel too it, like watching a game in a big Home Depot. However the sight lines are good since it was designed first as a baseball stadium. And since it's 95 degrees with high humidity every day in the summer in FL, the a/c is nice.

I haven't lived in FL for almost 3 years now so I haven't been there since they became the "Rays." It was rather depressing to watch a losing team in a giant warehouse with 5000 people in the seats, but I'd like to make it down in the future to see the team now and see how the atmosphere changed, cowbells and all! lol

Plans for that new waterfront stadium were withdrawn. When/if they build a new stadium, it might not be in that location or even resemble that pic.

While I think the look of that stadium is awesome, I think Tampa needs a true retractable roof stadium, with a/c. That design won't fly in the sweltering heat and violent thunderstorms that occur every day in central Florida in the summer. Also, they need to build it in Tampa, and not St Pete. I think attendance is hurt by the fact that it can take over an hour for people in the northern suburbs of Tampa to get to the stadium in rush hour.

So the videos show that fans in the bleachers are more rowdy than those in the box seats? :dontknow: Isn't that the case everywhere?
