    lol, you forgot 50 million

the whole point of a firesale is that they try to get rid of their most expensive players, because they can't afford them. They can't afford the $19 million a year, (like I said before) given their economic standing. Why do you think he got traded in the first place? because the marlins are a small market that wouldn't be able to afford signing him

I feel like the Tigers would love to trade that contract for a few solid prospects and some money

Last year when we sucked we set records in attendance. I doubt we will need to trade Cabrera just because of the money.

I don't think hes saying those will be his feelings, hes just saying thats another possibility.

I do have to agree with you on his contract. We've seen fire-sales in the past, and there will always be some teams (Yankees, Dodgers, Mets, Red Sox, Cubs, Angels) who will be willing to take on huge contracts, but in this economy it's not as sure of a thing.

That being said, I stillwouldn't deny the possibility of a trade.

there will not be a fire sale in detroit. The owner is banking off the tigers, red wings and his pizza chain. his money saving was Everett, lyon and laird. Lyon will probably be out of town in a few months if he doesn't get his act together. Boo'd on opening day, and zumaya coming off injured list hopefully soon.

Not yet at least. Another season in the dumps and there could possibly be a semi-fire sale. Not a full blown, Marlins-type, but if Cabrera isn't producing, might as well try to get him out of there.

As of right now Cabrera is producing.

Not as long as the bullpen holds together and the bottom third at least semi-produces.
I think it depends more on ticket sales than anything else, if people still go to the games even though they suck (like someone said a while back), then that decreases the chance of a firesale. but because of the crappy economy (especially in Detroit) and (possibly) team, people end up not going to as many games...well then, come on to Boston Miggy! (remember, this is also wishful thinking on my part)

(edit: but someone in Detroit would probably know better )

well, the economy wasn't as far in the shitter last year, but you would know better than me (about Detroit, not the economy lol)

you guys need to get off his cock, him and the rest of the team need to learn how to play defense and get some solid Pen help, then maybe they can contend

Lot of talk from a guy who's team had 12 less wins last year than the Cardinals, and still 2 less so far this year.

and it also turned into a good discussion about whether he'll get traded
